HOW TO KEEP MORE MONEY IN YOUR POCKETS!
Updated: Oct 4, 2019
Are you looking for ways to start keeping more money in your pockets? In this post I will be sharing 5 more tips that you can easily implement to start saving money!
This post is a part of a series, you can check out the other posts at the end of this blog.
1) SHELF COOKING:
This is something that I have really gotten into the last few years as we have been trying to cut down our grocery spending and use our resources wisely. If you are not familiar with shelf cooking it is basically shopping your fridge, freezer and pantry during meal planning. I first heard the term shelf cooking from Jordan Page from Fun, Cheap or Free if you haven't heard of her she is a must follow.
Next time you are trying to come up with meals look in your fridge, freezer and pantry first to see what meals you can come up with! Some things to consider to make sure that you are using what you have would be to have a pantry or freezer inventory list so you don't forget what you have.
PRO TIP:
Create a freezer and pantry inventory list so you can track what you have and "shop" your house easier by referring to you inventory list.
2) GET YOUR KONMARI ON AND DECLUTTER!!
If you are not familiar with Marie Kondo and her Konmari method her goal is to help more people tidy their spaces by decluttering and only keeping the items that bring joy. As you are decluttering you can sell some of your items that are in good condition to make extra money.
The other benefit by decluttering and only keeping items that bring you joy is that you will find more contentment with what you have and in the long run end up spending less thus saving money.

3) STICK TO YOUR LIST!
When shopping it is so important to stick to your shopping list! One major way that I do this is by shopping online. Now doing retail shopping online can help you save if you utilize coupon code sites (click here for more details!!). However I'm specifically talking about grocery shopping online!!
Did you know that several grocery stores now offer grocery pick up, some are even free like Walmart?? I have saved so much money by doing online grocery ordering.
REASONS TO GROCERY SHOP ONLINE:
1) It is less tempting to add a package of Oreo's to my cart...anyone else get tempted??
2) You can see your total before you checkout
3) You save time
4) You can even save money if you use Ebates (see this post for details and a chance to get money back)
$10 OFF CODE:
Next time you need to get groceries why not try utilizing online grocery pick up! If you want to try out Walmart you can click here for a coupon code for $10 off you first order!!
4) UTILIZE THE LIBRARY:
If reading more books is one of your goals this year, instead of spending money on buying them why not checkout your local library to see if you can borrow them for free!!
Our library even has an app, Hoopla, where we can digitally checkout books and audiobooks for FREE! So before you head to Amazon or Barnes and Nobles to buy your next read why not checkout your library first to save money as well as precious space in your home!!
If you are looking for a good book to read or listen too, please check out Rachel Hollis' Girl Wash Your Face. It is such an inspiring and amazing read and I love how she reads the book herself in the audiobook version. I was able to borrow this book through the Hoopla app this past year and it changed my life!! That book is actually what inspired me to create Organized to Save.
5) GROUP DINNERS IN:
We all love to go out to dinner with friends but it can add up so quickly!! If you are a parent there is also the added cost of babysitters or just the stress of finding a kid friendly environment where you don't have to worry about the kids being rambunctious.
Why not do dinners in next time and save yourself money as well as create a fun environment where you can laugh and play and not worry about bothering the couple on a romantic date at the next table over.
One of our favorite ways to hang out with our friends is to host group dinners. We typically rotate whose house the dinner is at each week and one major way we save money is by doing potluck style dinners. Typically the host will provide the main dish or the meat and everyone else will bring a side dish or dessert to share.
So next time you want to get together with your friends why not try hosting a group dinner and see how much you can save!
